What makes the best coffee around?
A whole lot of heart
Sourcing coffee ain't easy (and neither is pouring it).
We only serve coffee that is sustainably sourced and we only serve coffee that is expertly made. How, you ask? Simple, we work with long-time pals, Extract Coffee Roasters.
- Buying coffee, direct from farmers (at better than fair trade prices) ✅
- Hand roasting every bean in Bristol ✅
- Training every BTP Barista in everything from extraction to latte art ✅
Some call it showing off, we call it Making Things Better.
From Source to First Sip

Working directly with farmers, through their approach to fair, sustainable sourcing of beans, to find great tasting, considerately procured coffee, is rare to say the least.
In 2022 and 2023, led by Head Roaster, Tommy, Extract travelled to Brazil and Honduras to to meet the teams at origin, understand the supply chain, immerse themselves in the local community and sample and evaluate at every step to guarantee the perfect flavour.
The results? You're drinking it.
More than just beans

In Honduras, the Lapaterique region to be exact, all smallholders are subscribed to an agronomy programme, promoting a culture of constant improvement.
Extract fully support this programme, encouraging farmers to make changes to their farms, infrastructure, pruning programmes and management all to promote better quality. All these small changes make the farmers more productive and in turn more profitable. Access is then opened to the speciality coffee market, allowing these communities to sell their coffee through the right channels.
Hand Roasted in Bristol

Once those beans (and Tommy) have made their way back to the UK, they can be found at the Extract Coffee Roastery. Using restored, vintage roasters (powered by renewables), every bean is hand roasted, packed and shipped off to your local cafe from right here in Bristol.
As for the grinds? They get turned into bio-diesel, while the coffee chaff (the outer layer of the beans, shed during the roasting process) becomes chicken bedding and compost at a local organic farm.
Top-Notch Training

Our baristas aren't just pushing buttons, they know all there is about the perfect piccolo or a flippin' good flat white. From perfecting the grind and nailing the exact extraction to curating the finest crema and steaming the silkiest milk, they truly care about every cup they create.
Each one is trained by Extract Coffee, at Extract Coffee. Thus maintaining the connection and commitment to the perfect cup, from source to first sip.
