Breakfast Matters: The Wedding Wishing Well...

I know I normally write about food and drink, but last weekend was my first wedding anniversary, and it reminded me that I need to sort out my wedding dress. In doing this, I also wanted to shout about the amazing place I got it from.

Whilst at a wedding fair in Devon, I stumbled across a very unassuming stall called The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation. I started to chat to the person on the stand, and within 5 minutes of her telling me about what they do, we were both sobbing! I’m not normally overly emotional, but they are just incredible. She told me that she was a volunteer for the charity, and that they organise and pay for weddings for people with life altering or terminal illnesses.

One of the many ways they raise money is through selling wedding dresses at a shop in Exeter called La Boutique, they have dresses that have been donated by designers and pre-loved dresses, all for amazingly reasonable prices. I instantly knew this was where I wanted to get my dress from, so rang and booked an appointment for the following week.

The shop itself is great, not stuffy or pretentious (like many others) – I had so much fun there, and found a dress that I loved. My wedding dress was made 100 times more special knowing that the money I paid was doing some good, rather than just paying for an expensive sparkly shop somewhere. They are such an inspiring wonderful charity that actually bring such joy to people’s lives. But don’t take my word for it, watch this…

A year on, and I tell as many people as I can about The Wedding Wishing Well. Three friends of mine have also bought their wedding dresses from La boutique, and I’m excited to donate my dress back, so it can continue to do some good. I know this might not be for everyone, but if your wedding dress is under your bed gathering dust it maybe something to consider…
