Introducing almond milk

Introducing almond milk

We’ve been talking a lot about our milk recently, and we’re proud to only use Yeo Valley Organic. But we also realise that a lot of you don’t eat dairy. That’s why, following your feedback, we’ve recently added almond milk as a diary alternative in our food and drinks (including in our delicious breakfast smoothie pictured above). Cat, our Marketing Intern, tells us a bit more about it:

Being lactose intolerant, I have faced many challenges with my diet. I’ve even had to give up cheese (well… almost). But the hardest part for me has been finding dairy substitutes in restaurants and cafes. If I go to a café that doesn’t offer lacto-free alternatives then I’m often left sipping my juice, staring wistfully at other people’s caffeinated goodness. Luckily, our dairy free voices have been heard, and at BTP we’ve got it covered. There is now a choice of (my favourite) almond milk, as well as soya in our lactose free range.

It seems that almond milk is a favourite with you guys too, as in our recent drinks survey you requested that we add it to our choices of milk. So, we listened, and in addition to our organic Yeo Valley milk, almond milk is now available in all of our cafes. It’s not surprising that dairy substitutes are becoming so popular, seeing as 65 percent of the human population find it difficult to digest lactose. But we think that Almond milk is the perfect substitute, as it actually enhances the flavour of our drinks and doesn’t feel like a compromise. It also has a refreshing, nutty taste that is lighter than drinking a glass of whole milk.

And it’s not just the lacto-free lot that have seen the light… a lot of people are now choosing to drink almond milk for its health benefits. Having even less saturated fat than soya milk and really low cholesterol, it’s an easy way to stay on top of that health kick. It also has high levels of Vitamin E, which is great for your skin and gives it a lovely, healthy glow.

We love how versatile almond milk is too and it can be used in a variety of different recipes. From cakes to cookies, it opens up a whole new culinary world – and we have definitely been taking advantage of it. We are always on the look-out for new recipes, so if you have any tasty almond milk ideas why not give us a tweet?

We’ve even added some of these treats to our menu, such as our Breakfast Smoothie, which is completely dairy free and amazing with breakfast (or lunch… or dinner…). And if you’re feeling extra creative, you can even make your own almond milk at home.

So next time you come and see us, why not swap your milk for #mylk?
